Our Services

Virtual or In-Person?

Sunrise Reading Solutions utilizes a tailored Orton-Gillingham approach as well as the option to complete the Barton Reading & Spelling program, Foundations in Sound, and/or UFLI. We regularly supplement with drills and other Orton-Gillingham approaches that suit the specific needs of your child. If your child opts for virtual learning, all of our programs are fully integrated into an immersive online format so as to remain equally effective.

As Covid-19 is still present in our communities, we are happy to provide both in-person and online tutoring to families. Whether you choose an online model or wish to tutor in-person, we provide the same standard of excellence across all services we provide.

Getting Started

Before we begin our sessions, a free consultation call is scheduled with the parent(s)/guardian(s) over phone or video to learn more about your child and discuss our policies. If it is a good match, we begin our first session by administering three assessments: a brief reading & spelling assessment, a phonological awareness assessment, and a short Barton Assessment to evaluate whether they need targeted auditory memory, auditory discrimination, and/or auditory sequencing intervention. If a student does not pass the Barton Assessment, we will facilitate the growth of their auditory foundations through the Foundations in Sound program before proceeding to text-based reading and spelling programming.

As a client of SRS, your child will receive:

  • 1:1 instruction with an Ontario Certified Teacher

  • Simultaneous exercises to promote working memory, executive functioning, phonemic awareness, as needed

  • Two progress reports per year outlining the child’s achievement and ongoing areas of focus

  • Annual Word Identification and Spelling Test (WIST) testing and reporting*, including graphed progress and personalized commentary for home and school reference (6-9 pages of data and reporting - Value: $750.00)

  • Complimentary letter to their teacher(s) about how their work in Barton can be incorporated into the child’s personal instruction at school

  • Key learning chart for child to utilize during home and schoolwork

  • Parent support & resources

  • Optional: Extra practise worksheets, as requested

As long-term tutors, we value the connections we build with our families and work to ensure that everyone plays a positive role in their child’s progress.

*The WIST is not a diagnostic tool, nor are we qualified to diagnose learning disabilities. To learn more, please read about our Services below.

Reading difficulties are preventable, but early intervention is critical.

As identified in Matthew’s Law, accessing proven methods of remediation is critical for closing literacy gaps more efficiently. Simply “waiting it out” or “seeing how they do” can lengthen the time it takes to help students in later years.

Sign up for a free consultation to learn how we can get your child on the right track! Whether your child is in Kindergarten or High School or you yourself are looking for the literacy education you desire but didn’t receive growing up, it is NEVER too late to get help with reading and writing.

Pricing

For the success of your child, any Orton-Gillingham program requires that students participate in a minimum of 2 hours of instruction per week year-round. This typically works out to be two 1-hour long sessions per week, or 8 sessions per month. To read more about our policies, tuition plan, and session policies, please see our policies page.

Please note: We are open Saturdays - Thursdays.

All sessions are conducted 1:1 with an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) trained and registered with OG Canada.

Word Identification and Spelling Test (WIST)

Available for Grades 2 to Adult

$850.00

The WIST is a norm-referenced assessment and benchmarking tool to determine strengths and deficits across three main categories, including reading, spelling, and sound-symbol relationships. Assessments take between 60 - 90 minutes in-person or online, and a detailed report is sent with graphed data and a breakdown of the results.

Note: We are NOT psychologists and cannot diagnose learning disabilities. This assessment provides a snapshot of a student’s reading and spelling abilities and should only be used to benchmark progress and share with teachers, tutors, or other professionals who will be working with you or your child.
